In mid March 2016, I began tutoring both Chemistry 11 and 12 students from two west-side schools in Vancouver, BC. The experience was not planned, it just fell into place and felt like a natural progression from having taught the subjects in a classroom for 26 years. It was enjoyable, hopefully worthwhile for the students and helped pay for my hockey sticks. This fall (2016) I sent out notices to west-side schools, introducing myself and offering my skills. As a result, I am once again tutoring students from west-side Vancouver schools. It continues to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
In addition, I have begun to tutor Chemistry 11 and 12 online. The student gets a one on one experience with a full audio and visual connection. I can also share anything that is on my computer screen including an online whiteboard. It works like any other whiteboard, however, in addition files such as worksheets or diagrams can be loaded onto the whiteboard and then written on and erased as necessary. Most students would be and are surprised by the quality of the tutoring experience. What’s exciting for me, is that it makes my tutoring skills available to students anywhere in the province.
Here’s a short sample of my online classroom:
If you know anyone that would benefit from online tutoring let me know and I’ll set something up.
